Provide all alumni with a way to indicate what interest groups or Yale-related communications they would like to be a part of. It could work like this: every year each alum gets a mailing or email with a link to a list of all the projects and institutes at Yale and all the alumni shared interest groups that it is possible to sign up for. The list itself has links so that you can get a decent description of what each campus school or institute or project or each alumni organization is and does. When you check off what you want, it's like filling out a subscription offer card -- you start receiving that group's communications. Anytime you want to shut something off again, you can go back online to uncheck the boxes.
I am convinced this is a great idea. Although alumni already have an online profile through virtual Yale Station, providing coded SIG categories that can be self selected by alumni will put that individual on the radar site of the SIG organizers and web sites.
Area clubs and classes can be included also for those who would like to maintain multiple affiliations.

Another comment was that it would be particularly productive to recruit for shared interest groups AS students graduate.
