Although I am acquainted with ballet only as a viewer, in general it seems to me that choreography is a discipline devoted to using music as a basis for interpretation by dynamic body movements with aesthetic considerations to create an emotional impact. Peculiarly, this is the reverse of the way music is used in film in that the music is subsidiary to and complementary to the emotion generated by the actors and the drama of the plot and, especially in the latest years of the film, music is composed especially for the film. Computer technology makes possible this same relationship in ballet. If a stage is calibrated by motion sensors, the position and movement of the dancers could control musical sound so that the dancers themselves could compose the musical piece by their movements. In cooperation with a musical composer, preset musical phrases could be evoked and modified by the creative capabilities of the dancers so that each presentation would be an original and unique piece.
