The Telecoms should allow all land line phone nummbers to become fully portable. They should determine to charge the "owner" of the number to be the true owner for life for a price. Regardless of geographic location or device (cell, etc), that person should be able to utilize that number just as we use email addresses and domain names. Challenge to the industry would be to develop the billing system to drive off of a GPS sytem that would rate charges based on real physical location. Have a number today, buy the number, use it for life. Why not?

I'm thinking something similar, more like a phone circuit with a real number, but you isert a smartcard, which will have your personal number, into the phone or PBX base. The addressing will be similar to how web domain addresses work to IP addresses.
