Although cell phones are proving useful in emergencies and there are official numbers that can be used for these, with many older people and children and people with serious medical emergencies, frequently these users are too upset or mentally disabled to press more than one button. If an oversized red emergency button could be preprogramed to first contact a family member and then, after a time delay if there was no response, perhaps a doctor or the police or whatever was pertinent to the situation - there could be a programed succession of numbers. If there was no response to previous attempts, successive numbers could be contacted. Then many tragedies could be avoided. Coupled with global positioning it could be even more effective.

For people with medical problems: There are better systems. One example: You can't press a button if you have a heart attack, so the items has to monitor heart frequencies.
As for children: What for? They'd just be playing with it, and annoy emergency personnel. And how did I ever manage to grow up without a red emergency button? How did I grow up without a cell phone at all? And the hundreds of generations before me?
It will get hit accidentaly.
yes, it would promote safety, but it would be hit accidentally. What if it had a flipcover or required the pressing of a pair of buttons?
