This might be possible 50-60 years from now but right now, I seriously dought it. This is a space station that would come in "packets". The packets would come on to Mars much like the Spirit and Oppurtunity did Then a team of astronauts and rovers would assemble and live in the station.it would have agreenhouse filled with plants to give the astronauts food, oxygen, and heat. There would be massive solar panels outside the station and rechargeable batteries supplying the energy for the station. Urine could be filtered into water and the rovers could bring bring back rock and ice specimens and explore Mars's surface.

There would be no need to assemble a space station in modules that would be shipped to Mars separately. It is perfectly possible today (at, of course, large expense)to construct a large living habitat space station in Earth orbit where it could be tested before dispatching it to Mars. Although Clarke's "2001" was over-optimistic over space progress, only politics and economics would prevent this project well before 50-60 years

FWIW, the current space station is somewhat modular.

Maybe you don't know it, but these ideas are already very mainstream concepts for the exploration and settlement of Mars. I think this general scheme make a lot of sense.
