Shining Faces | |||||||||||||||||
Now that genetic engineering is almost upon us, it would be handy to have a luminescent face, especially if one could control the color of the florescence and switch it on or off at will. Some of the many uses – one could read in the dark without the use of a light, be recognizable day or night, code-talk by using fast changing color schemes, scare some folks at Halloween, etc. (Just kidding, but I do suspect we will see stuff like this - and not too far in the future either.)

Since a reading lamp is more convenient, economic and more illuminating than biologically altering a face, I doubt this will appear - at least in the near future. Genetic engineering, such as was done on luminescent zebra fish, must be done in the process of conception and must be a parental decision which seems to me to make the idea unlikely of coming to practice. But humanity is peculiar. I never thought being pierced by metal pins would gain any sort of popularity.
