I've wondered why there isn't a professial track meets, for the men and women who are great runners, something on the order of a horse or greyhound race. There are a number of tests to keep drugs at bay(not altogether). The public could bet on them para-mutual.

There a some fine runners that have no outlet, after college..and a few go to the olympic games, that's about it.

I think track guys would be interested in making a living at something some had train for all their life.

I like the idea, but I think that it is difficult to make a running race exciting enough for the general public due to the relative slow pace people run at as compared to dogs and horses.

However, I have read that in the United States, at the turn of the century track cycling was a very popular sport. Some have tried to bring it back, but unfortunately, I think we have to accept the fact that the world has changed, and the audience attention span only last as long as a pitch, or a play (football).
