Like many others, I have many additional devices in the car that need power - mobile phone, GPS in my Palm, speed radar detector etc. and they are all plugged into the pointless 'cigar lighter socker'. I mean - how many people actually use this outdated device to light a fag (sorry Americans - I mean cigarette) or cigar ??I have a three-way cable splitter and the inside of my car looks like the wire spagetti behind my PC.

Surely the car manufacturers should start putting in small, two-pin sockets (one pin larger than the other for correct polarity) throughout the car - both front and back.

And maybe a device (that can be easily bought anyway) built into the car that feeds a 'mains' socket in the car - so I can run my laptop with the engine running or the kids can power their CD players et al.

Thoughts......

For the latter, you can get devices called inverters, which do exaclty as you want, convert automotive power to mains power.

Also, many auto manufacturers install multiple power outlets in their vehicles too.
