I'm not sure where to post this:

the idea is bungee suspenders - not for trousers -picture my 90+ Mother with bungee suspenders attached to her walker that help take that beastie along with her as she ambulatesand is there when she feels unsteady and needs to put weight on her walker.Wheels may be okay for some uses but you still need to drag/carry/push a walker. Since we will all be faced with this scenario - let's invent the solution now.I see her dragging this appliance which is intended to assist herand it sometimes seems more of a hinderance than a help.

kim, I don't understand. What exactly do you mean by 'bungee suspenders' and how exactly could it support someone's weight? I can't picture what you are describing.

The walker is suspended on bungee cords that hold it off the groundso Mother can move and the walker comes along with her.If she feels unsteady, putting pressure on the walker brings it in contact with the ground giving her stability. When she relieves the pressurethe walker rises, hence she does not have to lift or drag it along with her.Sorry if I was less than descriptive eastriver.

It sounds more cumbersome now than when I first thought of it.I guess the underlying premise is how can we make this utilitarian toolmeant to for frail people to use - easier for frail people to use.

So the walker is suspended from some rail on the celing? (Sorry if I still don't get it.) It has always seemed to me that the walkers with small wheels on the rear legs were more useful.

eastriver - I'm trying to figure out how to draw a picture -The bungee cords are just like suspenders going over her shoulders, holding the walker up, so the walker goes where she goes without lifting or dragging.

If you ask one more question (and I'm not being negative) I think it will prove this is not as great an idea as I first thought.

Walkers need to have spring loaded wheels in parallel with the rear supports. When the user puts their weight on the handles this would compress the spring, the wheels would come up and the supports would take the weight. When the user mopves forward, this uncompress' the spring, the wheel would go down and the supports would not drag on the ground.
