There is a cultural object in African story teller tradition where a small tree branch has magical objects tied to the branches, each object crucial to the story being told. A modern version of this would be a children's book with transparent enclosures on critical pages with magic sea shells, or rings or locks of hair or dragon scales which would be "the real thing" to enhance the suspension of belief in stories of magic and enchantment to captivate small children. A nature book could have real leaves or seeds as part of the pages, and so forth.

My daughter does this with greeting cards. I'm sure someone has done it with childrens books.
