Noise cancel dentist equip. | |||||||||||||||||
Hello everyone - I think there might be something like this out there and its just not caught on. Everytime I go to a dentist to get my regular checkup/cleaning, the automatic tools they use emit a noise with an ear piercing freqency. The drill for a cavity is even worse. I've told my dentist about this. I use cottom in my ears to dull the noise but I'm still sensitive to it. There has got to be a way using physics to redirect the noise or cancel the noise out by using reverse soundwaves. My physics is lacking but a wave following a certain pattern could be neutralized so to speak by another wave making the sound almost non exisitent. Another option of course would be to design the cleaning/drilling equipment to emit a frequency beyond the hearing range of humans. Please someone with venture capital...do something about this!!! I'm sure the technology could be applied to other sound emitting devices. Billion dollar industry? who knows...

I assume you already know that noise cancellation is already being used for certain applications, such as the Bose noise canceling headphones. It seems like it would work for a dental drill, with or without headphones.
