Hugs as a currency | |||||||||||||||||
Hi Linda, love the website! I want to set up a website on the Internet that lets people give each other virtual 'Hugs.' Please have a look at the idea below. This is a completely not-profit operation, being paid in turn by 'Hugs' from those who enjoy using the system. I would love to use www.(edited).com to get this started. Your current content would be preserved as it is, and you would get tons and tons of visitors. Please take a look at the idea below and let me know if you are interested. Thanks!!!!! -Nate Johnson When someone does something nice for you or "Helps" you out in some way, you can send a Hug into their online account, at the same time typing in a little note explaining why you gave them the Hug. You have unlimited Hugs to give people, your balance starts at zero and only goes up as you help people and they send you Hugs. Everyone should understand, world-wide, what the value of a hug is (a "Hug" is the same as a hug). When someone Helps you, i.e. does something for you that you feel is worth, say 10 Hugs, you send them a virtual Hug to thank them and you also send them, say, 10 "Stars" (remember the star system in kindergarten?) Initally, we have one Star as equivalent to one Hug (so everyone understands the starting point for the value). You have a Star balance that starts at 0 and can go up and down, as you receive Stars and give Stars. You generate one extra Star in your account for every Hug you receive (for every good deed / Help you give). This way the more people you can reach, the more Stars you have to give out to people who help you. It rewards people for philanthropic actions. It alligns self-interest with public-interest. It approximates how the universe works. You have heard of Karma, right? A group of people can work as a team (a new kind of business!) to generate Stars that they share. The leader of the group, in turn, divides the Stars among the group according to how he/she values their contributions. Stars will have an exchange rate that floats on the open market. People will sell their Stars as needed to continue to work within their government's current monetary system (e.g. make traditional payments to traditional businesses). The Star system... hey, we could call it the Solar System, giving the Heavenly powers credit where it is due :-) Anyway, the Star system will allow and encourage artists, musicians, writers and other knowledge creators to share their creations without copyright, where the creations will evolve to be better than originally envisioned, maximizing their benefit to the maximum number of people. By incorporating the Star system into an HTML wiki that maintains every version of an HTML page, we can evolve HTML files that can contain text, photos, drawings, music and the list goes on. When someone makes a change (a new version of the HTML page) that other people build on, it creates a "downline" where people can easily see where the credit is due and recognize, reward and encourage creators with Stars. Our best thinkers will be rewarded for giving away their great ideas for the rest of us to build on and enjoy. Perfect! (ok, nothing is perfect, but this seems close!). The Star system is transparent so everyone can see who has received the most Hugs and Stars and what they did to deserve them. People will seek out their own talents and skills that others most appreciate in order to have a bigger impact on people and increase their Stars income. Maximizing your "profit" only happens when you maximize the help you are able to provide others. Beautiful. First, join the free website ... (hugs.com?), then do some nice things to Help people (and get them to also join the website) so they can give you voluntary Hugs and Stars for your Help. The next step is to tell the world what kind of Help you want. What you are looking for? How are you trying to get there? The website will give you a page for you to hold all this information and allow potential Helpers to search for people that are wanting their Help. The the Helpers will give you goods, services and information, trying hard to give you exactly the Help you want so that you will appreciate it the most and choose to give them a lot of Stars afterwards. The more Stars you are able to give people who Help you, the more people will strive to Help you, seeing that you have a track record of being generous with your Stars. In the same way, the quality of the Help you receive will improve as you gain and give more Stars (Stars that you received because you Helped others). Because a new Star is added to the system each time someone sends a Hug (the extra star mentioned above), the total number of Stars in the system grows. This is a perfect result, because we want to encourage the Stars to keep circulating. Their value does not last because the "Star-supply" is constantly increasing. This encourages people to continue to work together to help each other, not just hit it big and retreat into selfishness again. Since people get more Stars for providing Help that people really need, people will be doing 'Help' that they are really good at, and they will really enjoy the Help that they do (you are successful when you enjoy your 'work', seek to enjoy yourself and help others enjoy themselves). so... Linda, what do you think? can we work together? Love, Nate Johnson (I typed it, but I can't take the credit. This is divine Help --it what I have been asking for: a way to Help everybody.) n_johnson@yahoo.com858-824-9003 h520-405-9286 c ps I am putting a copy of this on my website, http://betterdifferent.com and on http://whynot.net

I edited out the URL of the website mentioned by n8johnson (incidentally, an association of dieters) so as not to distract users from the idea proposed here (which is actually not involved with the previously mentioned site).
Thanks for that!!! I didn't look very closely at the site, I thought hugs.com was advocating actually running around and hugging people as a way to lose weight. Upon closer inspection, it is an acronym for a system to lose weight without dieting: [from hugs.com]:
H ealth focused, centered on
U nderstanding lifestyle behaviours
G roup supported, and
S elf esteem building.
Anyway, I have refined / updated this idea. The new one is: Hugs as a currency, 000002, and I have proposed that we continue to keep each version of it in its own category (I hope to convince others to work on it and make improved versions).
Then it will also be cool to discuss what improvements we want to see in future versions, even if we can't make the improvements ourselves (e.g. I'd like to use more common words to make this easier to translate into other languages). Someone else is probably a lot better at that then I am. What I have done then, is generate and share an idea about how to improve an idea, hoping that someone can help out. It makes perfect sense then, that ideas each should have their own "category".
We want to be able to trace the evolution of the idea back to see why certain changes were made and we can always reevaluate our old changes and potentially choose to "rewind" to an earlier point in the evolution of the idea and begin again from there.
An amazing thing has happened now. I really want to include this information in the latest version of the Hugs and Stars Idea, however, it is not really relavent to the core idea, more so to the mechanism of this website and how to keep improving all ideas, not just this one....
So, what I will do after I post this comment is to create a new idea and include the concept of using multiple versions of an idea in a Category of its own in it. Then I will come back here and leave a link to it, RIGHT HERE. It would be great if the software could do that automatically, like how WikiWords work in wikis to generate a new page and link to it as you type.
I have a tremendous flow of ideas and I am searching for the best way to organize, share and let others contribute to evolving them. This sounds like is going to work!!!

ps hi, this is nate again, I just came back here to insert that link above. This works!!!!
