Why not have a wireless (or wired) digital picture frame that connects to your PC and to which you can indicate certain pictures on your hard drive for display and rotation? In fact, you could have a whole series of frames throughout your home which you'd be able to centrally control. This would give you an outlet for all of the pics you currently have. Furthermore, you'd never need to have a glass/plastic frame again; You'd never need to update prints in a frame or explain that it's a few years old. In addition, a text box with an LED display or any type of display for that matter, could provide the viewer with a context with either the title of the picture or perhaps additional commentary that you could provide.

I have seen a product that enables you to upload pics to a central server and have them downloaded via a modem line for viewing (I think it's mostly for relatives/friends w/o a PC).

This product was released by PhotoVu LLC two months ago. It sounds exactly like what you've described, and the product is built-to-order so the buyer can customize the presentation. At the moment it's very costly (approx. $1500), but it's a great idea.

The product you have seen is from a company called Ceiva (ceiva.com). And there is a "Digi-Frame" who manufactures what you are looking for: digi-frame.com.

Cheers!

Looks like the products are there, definitely. Price point, as you point out, isn't. Very neat. Thanks for the links both of you.

I am certain that some of these products are much more affordable than $1500. I remember something that was on the order of $200, and that was *several* years ago. The catch was, and still is, that you have to pay a monthly fee for the downloading service.

Check out the iPod Photo.

There are now four products in the $200 to $300 range that do this, made by Ceiva Logic's Ceiva Life, Kodak's EX811, Smartpants SPX12, and Westinghouse digital DPF-1021. The product review in the April 19, 2008 Seattle Times liked the Kodak best. Here's a link to the review:
