Soccer is a fine sport and loved worldwide, but it can be slow with aggrevatingly low scores. To mix things up a bit - have 4 teams play at the same time. The field would be square and the goals would be in the middle of the sides (faces of square). A goal would count as a point against the team that was scored upon. Lowest score wins. Instead of a center-line there would be an X which would extend from the corners. Teams could team up on each other, but ultimately they would have to compete. It would be this 'complete or cooperate' internal conflict which would make things more interesting.

This would definately speed up the action, I think it might be difficult for spectators to follow, but that just might make it more involving than the current team-on-team type play for lots of sports.
Can you do the same thing to speed up baseball?
soccer people don't get alot out of this, and it makes training and rules completely different. i think soccer is a perfectly entertaining sport as it is , and doing some thing to make it more interesting isn't a good idea.
