This thought came to me the other day while sitting in a conference room attempting to place a call within the office building. Is it possible to have a wireless phone connect to a local cellular network that would be established within a building or between a set of buildings? When I enter the building, my wireless phone can place 'local' calls on the local wireless network free of charge. Cellular boosters would be placed within the building to provide adequate signal strength throughout.
This would allow folks who carry cell phones with them in the building to be able to dial on the local network just as if they were using their office extension. Ideally, their office and wireless phones could share the voicemail box (already done today, I know) and they could simply dial the extension number instead of the full number.
