A more precise title would be Open Recipe Bread. Basically it would involve a company that uses the same brave ideas found in the open source software revolution and apply it to bread sold in stores. The bread would contain a complete recipe (think source code) on the label which would make that loaf. The recipe could be altered or copied. If the altered or copied recipe is used for distributed bread (think compiled) a copy of the recipe must be included. Since bread is already a commodity this shouldn't effect price. It would also help the consumer to know exactly what is in the bread. It would not reduce the chances that they would steal the recipe and make their own, as it is far more convenient to just buy it. Professional bakers would enjoy the ability to tweak the recipes and possibly obtain notoriety. Everyone wins except closed recipe breads.

Although the concept is interesting, there is more to making bread than the recipe of ingredients. I have been experimenting with baking bread for years and aside from the method of combining the ingredients, flour comes in various distinctive types, even considering wheat alone. And the rising times, manipulation of the dough, type of oven, oven temperature, baking time, and a few other factors all play a critical part in the final product.
