With the proliferation of onscreen titles in television now, like a network's transparent logo in the bottom corner and upcoming showtimes being flashed in a similar area, it's often annoying as hell when the program you are trying to watch BEHIND the graphics has captions and graphics of its own -- or if even the network itself has a weather alert symbol showing underneath the logo. All the relevant content gets obscured by this irrelevant cosmetic junk.

If the networks feel the need to advertise in this manner, why don't you just letterbox everything like the former TNN (now Spike I think, not sure) did (does?). Put all your irrelevant crap down there and stop interfering with content that I actually tuned in to see!

My idea would be to have the set or box display the overlays with its software/hardware, so you can set and/or adjust it.
