My wallet is full of credit, debit, and retail cards. Each time I make a purchase, I'm forced to decide which of the cards to use. Why not allow all your accounts/credit lines to be accessed by a single card?

You could slide the card into the ATM machine for selection and choose debit or credit. It would detect the various accounts/credit lines you had available, and would allow you to choose the appropriate one.

This would help reduce card loss (and subsequently card use by unauthorized users), as you would have a single card. It would also allow you to quickly see what accounts were available when making a purchase.

Your debit card usually is also a credit card. But if you're smart, you might get rid of all of those money sucking card gaints and only keep your debit card with a low limit credit and use it only when neseccary.

In the USA that is (at least), in Canada, your ATM card is your debit card.

As of late, some stores have been forgoing their own store credit cards by partnering with real credit card companies for their store cards, which can be used outside of those stores as well.

A single card could result in easier identity theft. A single card and a dozen accounts, what about the PIN? A single PIN for all your accounts would make thieves very happy.

While debit cards are great, read the fine print and you'll discover you're not insured. Especially so with some Visa and Mastercard debit cards.
