University contest to fix voting machines!!!

Now three companies, without impeccable reputations are providing most of the touch screen voting machines for U.S. elections. They are using the Operating system from a convicted monopolist to run the machines, windows ce.

I suggest, demand, that a public contest is held in which any organization may submit open source code which will run on these machines. The money saved by using the open source OS and application will be given to the winner and runners up. Ideally many of the top universities would enter the contest and propose a solution. Any group showing serious commitment would be able to obtain a machine to practice with. We could pit MIT against Caltech for example to see which solution is best. Also the winners security vulnerabilities would be examined by the runner ups and the public. I envision several million dollars going to the winning group.

Also the solution must include a printed record in case a manual recount is required.

And it must be in place and approved before November 04.

Anyone with details as to the number of machines and the amount paid to microsoft for the OS please post.

If there was ever a need for a fast open source solution it is now.
