Every year a tremendous amount of fallen leaves must be dealt with. At times they can be converted to mulch but much of this matter is illegal to burn as it pollutes the air and it is a problem to dispose of. It is no less fibrous than wood chips which are regularly converted to particle board. If the leaves were treated as a crop instead of waste material they might provide a source for manufacturing synthetic lumber.

There isn't much fiber in a leaf.

Burning is permitted in my community, as long as it's burned in a closed incinerator.

In the fall, the city has special "leaf pickups," a maximum of 15 bags is permitted per weekly pickup; special large brown plastic bags are recommended.

The fibers in leaves are mostly small. Maybe they would be better suited for making paper?
