Imagine working on your car, with your greasy dirty fingers and need to look up some reference material on the internet. You go inside, clean up, make sure your fingers are spotless, then commence your search. Time wasted.

Why not have a more durable keyboard that can be used by mechanics, field technicians, miners, or anyone who needs ready access to data from a computer? It should be made of metal, easy to wipe down and could take a good 'hit' or two.

I know that some companies provide portable 'field' computers, but what about fixed computers in the shop? Have you ever seen a mechanic's keyboard? It's filthy!

What might work is a flexible cover that is easily snapped off and washed but soft enough to flex to permit keys to be struck. It should be formed to match the bumps of the keys for easy touch reference.

I have seen some of these covers and for them to be thin enough to use the keyboard properly, they have a problem. The 'skins' are not very durable. They are usually made of a thin rubber/plastic and when in contact environments outside of home or office, they really don't hold up to the test.

I haven't used this but how about a "loose" piece of Saran wrap over the keyboard and tucked under the sides. This makes for a quick, cheap, simple cover and you can dispose of it when your finished. Now all we need to do is figure out how to get the Saran wrap off the roll in one piece.

I imagine a case where you might need the surface to be resistant to offensive materials, while accomodating the gloves you'll most likely be wearing. Simple plastics might not do. It should be no grand matter to make the entire face of the keyboard one whole piece.
