Taking care of certain animals often prohibits many from enjoying their company. Doesn't everyone want a monkey? But most don't want to deal with the burden of raising a monkey. My idea would be to rent animals for short periods (hours or days). Common domestic animals could be rented as well as exotic animals (monkeys, seals, tigers, zebras, penguins). This would an uncommon business idea. Marketing would be easy as most news outlets would want to 'talk it up'.

For common pets, you can go volunteer at your local animal shelter. I walked dogs in shelters for three years before getting mine, and I called it my "Rent-a-puppy." Many shelters also have cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small mammals.

As for exotics, many of them need special handling and care not just if you have them for months but every moment of every day. Someone who rents a monkey without special training could get VERY hurt. Not to mention that moving the animal from one house to another, unless the animal itself was VERY well socialized and trained and very docile, would hurt the animal's mental stability, making it even more dangerous. Many exotic pets have rescues devoted to them - if you know enough about one to handle it well, but can't commit for the entire life, contact one about fostering.

Oh, and I forgot to mention - even if you don't care about the wellbeing of the animals, the liability would be HUGE. You'd probably have trouble turning a profit because you'd get sued every time someone was bitten by one of these exotics - which would likely be almost every time they were rented out. Even the "common" pets would be likely to bite when they're shunted around from one place to another all the time.

I agree with the previous posters, and I do not support this idea. But I must admit I came upon this site searching "Animal Rental" on Google. In a FAR different way than you have depicted here. I was looking for trainers who bring circus-like/exotic animals to events for show and educational purposes. So it wouldn't be as crazy as this idea, for the same loving and caring owner would be around the animal at all times and at all places. [At least that's what I had in mind when I began the search] It would be a really sad life for an animal that never got to have a loving and caring family. That would kinda be like a neglected foster-pet.
