I was thinking. Why doesn't someone or some group write a scholarly book about "what if African people were never enslaved". I tried looking for such a book but so far none exsists. People un-sypathetic to African-Americans often say that slavery was the best thing to happen to that race. I think this is unsubstantiated. I've also met many people from the South that contest the civil war would have happened anyway, w/ out the debate of slavery, this book should also explore that aspect too. It would also ask questions like "could the US have made it without slavery?" and "what if there was no civil rights movements in the '60s". African-Americans, and their contribution are so much of American history, and it's development, and betterment, an America without them is unthinkable. If groups black and white really took inventory of the historical events, and met half way much good could happen. This would also make the pro-reparation movement more accessible topic to people, white and otherwise, not something entirely ignored, but seen for what it is, from another view. It would also have to be written in a humanistic perspective, that would redefine the American Negro as someone with a good heritage, with 2 continents to call home. The President called slavery "the greatest crime in human history", I would hope a book, effort, and movement like this would be apart in making up, and correcting that blot in US history.

could try here.
I noticed the theme of a couple of those books was, "what if the loser won". I don't think their is a book like the one I discribed because, slavery isn't seen as the loss it is. For all involved, it could have been better.
RX7 I think thats a good idea, but it your so why dont you try to write a book like it, I know that not everybody can do writting book or doesnt have the time. But think about it. A similiar idea was, what would happen if Hitler would won the WW2 how would the world go on? But there is I think a book about that or even If there would not be any Hitler. I think that the civil movement in the 60s changed the US sosiety in a very positive way and there is still lot of work to do, I personaly think that the Americans would live and behav like the euroeans 100 years ago if there would not be the civil right movements.
