Fishing is one of the most popular sports around yet some of the fundamental techniques are difficult for the novice to perform. Successful outcome depends on several factors, one of which is proper casting technique.
Why not develop a subtle, yet effective, lure launching system to a specific target or distance from a shoreline? I have thought of a couple of approaches but would be interested in feedback to this idea in general.
Several fisherpeople friends of mine think that this would take the nostalgia out of the fishing experience. Perhaps so, but I also think there are those that might see this as an extension of the sport... sort of an "extreme" fishing technique.

It might be possible to devise small steerable battery powered devices that would trail a lure in a manner to simulate prey for the fish or, instead of a fishing rod, a small airgun could place a lure at a selected point with a reel attached to bring in the catch.
Doesn't this kind of take the fun (not to mention skill) out of fishing?
