Coke and Pepsi are massive organizations that control (I estimate) 85%+ of the multi-billion dollar global beverage market. A product with huge margins and a multi-pronged distribution network. I propose the creation of a Social Venture Soft Drink product called CHANGE(tm), where 50% of the gross proceeds (if it pencils out, pretax net seems too much of a qualifier) are donated to progressive non-profit organizations. 50% distribution of fund in the US, and 50% international. Given what the products is... Coke or Pepsi...isn't it about time for a CHANGE? Take a sip, help the world. Cool isn't COKE, cool isn't PEPSI, cool is helping, cool is CHANGE.

This would be the case if Newman's Own went into soft drinks. They currently make a lemonade. Newman's Own gives 100% of its profits away and the numbers are real ($125 million so far). But there is still the issue of whether the product is healthy. That's one of the ideas behind Honest Tea (of course I'm a bit biased being one of the founders). Tea that tastes like tea (not liquid candy). And for about half of our teas, we give away 1% of revenue (which so far is more than 50% of our profits).

First of all being a socially responsible organisation, one should think hard about pushing sugared drinks. Why not do it with straight bottled water or mineral water? I guess it would have even better margins and the market for just plain water should be a growing one (just of the top of the head).

Agree with water and tea over soft drinks. I also think that far more is possible to build a sustainable global economy than charitable giving from new venture profits. Check out www.DualCurrency.com I voted yes anyway, because it's worth a try. Best, Joel

Some of the proceeds, should really be invested, in developing countries, rather then just handed out, although you could probably do both. Perhaps, spread seed money to encourage bussiness and free enterprise throughout the world. If it was bottled water, you could also say something on the label like, 'xxx amount of people do not have potable water supply', then something about how this company is changing that. If it is a soda, I hope it is good for people. Coke, and Pepsi, have Corn syrup. By it self it isn't so bad. It does not activate the hormone in your stomach that says you are full. As a result people drink that with fattening fast food, and don't feel as stuffed as they would with out it. Soda, also has dextrose, and a couple other things that can't be good for you. If this is about CHANGE, it should be good, and good for you too.
