Children get lost, run away, taken away in family disputes, and worse. What if young children (0-12) are provided in their belt/jacket/shoes with some sort of LoJack-style tracking device? Perhaps the device is sewn into the item of choice by the owner, most likely the item most worn by the child. When turned on this device would be able to quickly and within a matter of feet locate the missing child. Would there be ways to abuse this devise on individuals over 12? Sadly, yes. But, if the devices already exists for vehicles, why not make it scalable to track our REAL most important resources, our children.

Nice. If the Fed develops the hardware/ software I'm sure it will be slightly more secure then what the FOP could develop. I think I've seen stuff like this proposed on the morning news. I'd also like to see something like this just for adults etc, since my sister was kidnapped once.

You could take the same kind of idea but different. Kids around two or three, for example, are incredibly fast and small. They can easily hide among clothes racks, around corners, etc. Why not make a device, which must be easy to put on by a parent and not easy to take off by a child. When the child is out of sight, the parent can start a beeper (on the child) to make the child easier to find. The down side is that anyone hearing the beeper would know the child is out of site - SO, you could have the homing beeper on the parents device.

Already available. Just buy yourself a wire free house door buzzer. Attach the buzzer to the child, keep the button in your pocket. Press button to find child...

I recall seeing something like this for sale several years ago, must not have been too popular. Need to implant a chip to really effective. My dogs have chips that can be scanned to ID them if they are lost (then call the tracking company with the ID and they call me). Soon you could have one the transmits when activated by parents (like being paged) and then sends a weak signal to a local WiFi connection (coming to a farm near you).

<irony>Why not put it under their skin? You could also GPS them, so - when their are older - you will know if they are on a part of the town you don't aprove? After all, why keep the tags just in chilfren? Teenagers do all kind of stupid stuff and are raped and kidnaped on a daily basis.</irony>

If you can't keep an eye in them and be a part of your kids lives, you should not have children. Technology is no substitute for parenting.

You are an idiot, no more, no less.

Many good parents have had their children abducted and/or killed. A device like this may very well prevent the same thing from happening to others.

You are obviously NOT a parent. You cannot have them within eye sight 24/7.

How about if your child was abducted from your home while you were sleeping at night?

Maybe instead of trying to figure out that technology doesn't replace good parenting (which you have no clue about), you should remove your foot from your mouth.

Child predators don't target bad parents they target innocent children and opportunity. So Aoristo you are mistaken in your conviction.

Friday August24th I was lying down on my driveway so my daughter could trace my shape but the man who almost kidnapped my little girl couldn't see me because our flower garden blocked his view.

I just found this site while researching the idea of a lojack like system. I am doing this because my child almost became a stastic just a few days ago and we have no strong way of helping our children in this kind of emergency situation. Now I can't get to sleep because of the fear he could be targeting her and looking for another opportunity. She starts kindergarten in two weeks...opportunities...her birthday party is next weekend outdoors with several guests....opportunities... Can she ever again be in our yard or riding her bike without me being at her side? The answer for now is no. He could have taken her Friday if he came ten minutes sooner. I was pulling out my gardening tools then. When you have your own children remember my afternoon last friday.
