USB Device for Storing Secrets | |||||||||||||||||
I have a hard time remembering the dozens of usernames/passwords that I have for various machines and web sites. It's a pain, especially for sites/machines that I don't visit on a daily basis. What about a small keychain USB 'fob' with a 3-line LCD display and fingerprint reader. By plugging it into my computer, I can enter a site name and my account information to that site. Once I've loaded my accounts, I can just keep it on my keychain. Then, when I need an account, I access the device with my thumbprint, and scroll to the account info I need. Or, I validate with my thumbprint and insert the device into a USB port. Applications could then have access to the device and automatically log me in. Kind of like MS Passport, but hardware based and biometrically (sp?) secured. Very small, easy to use, and secure. Might also be useful for storing other small bits of sensitive data...credit card numbers and PINS, calling card PIN numbers, lock combinations, etc.

Great idea. PC Magazine offers a utility (free) that will encode links and passwords, so you can ge to them all on one password to access the utility. You could put that on a USB memory key and get part of the way to what you want. The are reports of a USB memory key that will carry all your windows settings, so when you plug it in to a machine, it acts like yours. Your idea would add value to such a device.
As far as I know, there will be a similar design to fit your X'mas product. it's a RFID card and a RFID reader with the USB interface. The RFID reader is attached in your PC or laptop. th e RFID automatically save all your PIM/password for most of popular website. You don't have to repeatly type your username/password once you do it with such a device. it will automatically log in for you.
Very interesting. Take a look at http://www.sentegra.com. Your idea is a reality.
IronKey does not have biometrics, but does provide secure storage and a password manager in a USB form factor.

Very Nice! As i know, there is one kind of usb key called 'Dawdler`s Password Keeper' and 'Password Spirit' can do exactly the same function as you mentioned. It can save your ID & password automatically and login automatically. You can check this website www.computersentry.net
