Many people like to eat when driving. Others like to eat when surfing the web, reading a book, or when flipping through all 500 channels in a vain attempt to find something decent on TV. In each of these cases, the person would like to be able to comfortably eat while using only one hand. The stereotypical fast food menu - burgers and fries - can't be eaten in such a manner while speeding away from the drive through window, or while surfing the net via the web access some restaurants now provide. A burger is too wide, needs to be repositioned for every bite, and is prone to dripping when not held parallel to the ground. Fries tend to be small and therefore require many grabs into the bag, and need to be dipped in ketchup before eating.

Someone one should start a fast food chain designed around the principle that everything served could be comfortably eaten with one hand, while the customer's primary attention is focused elsewhere. The shape of the burger and bun would no longer be round, which was an arbitrarily chosen since beef patties and bread have no natural shape. Instead, they would be shaped like a hotdog - with the incision on top not reaching the ends - so that the burger can be munched in a straight path with any fear of dripping. The french-fries would be long and thick (what they sometimes call steak-fries), with a ketchup type flavoring already on it (as you find on spicy-fries). Pizza could be made in a similar long and thin rectangular shape, with a thin crust rising on the sides, and with the toppings placed directly on the dough beneath the sauce and cheese to reduce the risk of spills. Soups would be served in a spill resistant cup designed for sipping - as you now see advertised on TV. There is no shortage of food items that can be retrofit to fit the new specifications.

Fast food chains have invested a great deal in developing the concept of the convenience. Consistently good food can be quickly served to you in a nearby location - wherever you may be. It is time for someone to take the next step, and enable the process of consuming the food to be equally effortless and thought free.

I'm there. This is the hands-free cell phone for food. I find that a bagel works pretty well, as do carrots.

Why not have food in bite sizes? Then have them packaged in such a way that each bite size can be doled out one at a time. You will have problem free driving while having your favourite chow. To my mind repackaging Chinese cuisine would be relatively easy ...

ood idea...yet, consider if it is market as such..'driving food' and an accident occurs (which there will) how fast this concept could be exploited...just like the 'coffee was too hot'...suppose one could put a disclaimer on that dog!! lol...i already try avoid all people who groom, eat, smoke and hold devices as much as possible...as they are not really all there while driving a deadly weapon :-) chers.its an idea..

One pound size chocolate bars are great on the road. They don't crumble or drip, taste great, last a long time, and have loads of extra calories.

Super size shakes with straws are good, too. The ones from McD's don't even thaw out! They are just a rich and thick at room temperature. Loads of satisfying fat and sugar, too.

I think that if you want to eat, then eat! If you want to drive, then drive! If you want to surf the web, put the burger down for a minute and surf, then eat! That's the problem with a lot of motorists lately, they do too many things instead of driving, like eating and talking on cell phones. A lot of accidents are caused every year because of things like these. Your idea sounds great for lazy people!

Although there are valid criticisms against eating while driving. something in the order of the belt feed of a machine gun might be least objectionable with tasty morsels embedded in a ribbon strip of breadlike material. These can be purchased by length with various interesting combinations of foods. The driver, of course, will look rather stupid with this long string hanging out of his/her mouth but you can't have everything. In general the concept of shaped food has possibilities. In eating in the ordinary manner with presized morsels, semi-tubular shaped breads might substitute for silverware eliminating some aspects of cleanup.

You're a little too late here. A certain Lord Sandwich didn't want to leave the gambling table to eat, so he ordered his servant to him bring a slice of meat between two slices of bread. The rest is history.

Isn't eating while driving in the same category as driving while eating a mobile phone? If you haven't got two hands available your're "driving without due care and attention" (as the British law describes it), dangerous and prosecutable.
