Altruistic Engagement | |||||||||||||||||
I read a question posed in the book, "Why not?" with great interest: Why not show people how to give more to charity? Official surveys of "charitable giving" show young people to be the least likely age group to give to charity. If they do not discriminate between beggars and charity collectors, are young people disaffected or disenfranchised? On a daily basis, I ask young people directly about their present and potential future engagement with charities. Charity is not a topic at the forefront of young people's minds and it is not the first thing they would think to do with their money. If you know of a young adult who has optimism about charities which needs to be built upon and encouraged, please have them contact me regarding my CEO@18™ Youth and Entrepreneurship Development Program. Starting with practically nothing, they will perceive an opportunity, create an organization to pursue an endeavor that benefits society, assemble the required resources, implement a practical plan, assume the risk and share the rewards. In the CEO@18™ Youth and Collegiate Entrepreneurship Development Program presented by WHOmentors.com, young adults look at creating a Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation for public and charitable purposes as a Mentor Practitioner™ development opportunity—from the very definition of the concept to what will be expected of them as the Director & CEO and what they can expect in return, and from how to decide the most appropriate exempt activity that reflects their academic focus and fits their new "executive" lifestyle. Their entity will be welcomed and given corporate powers, rights and privileges by their Secretary of State and designated as exempt from taxes by both the State Franchise Tax Board and the Internal Revenue Service. In cultivating such a relationship with young people, WHOmentors.com can provide the missing stepping stone for young people to feel more included, valued and more powerful agents in society. So, I pose the following question: Would your outlook on economic opportunity, philanthropy, ethics and education be any different if you were a CEO in college?

I stand by my statement. I don't think the idea of this site is "I had an idea, so I implemented it, and I want to tell you about what I did". If it is, I'm mistaken, but I'll be sad for the fate of this site...
