Child Safety Flotation Device | |||||||||||||||||
Every time I take my two year old daughter to the beach or pool, I wish there was a way to ensure she would be safe from drowning. How about an inflatable flotation device sewn into children's swim suits that would inflate if held at a certain depth for a required amount of time. Jumping into the water and surfacing would not be enough time to trigger the device, so it would not interfere with normal child water play. At the beach, where the water is always murky, if a child happened to sink, they would be floated back to the surface and be easily found. Without such a device, call in the divers to begin the body search. Skydivers already have a pressure-sensitive device to open their chute if they get below a certain altitude. It would be pretty simple to incorporate it into a swim suit.

Sounds interesting, would the pressure be great enough at 4 feet or so to activate? As a watchful parent what if you had a radio device to activate it?
Sounds good to me.
Sounds feasible. Water is heavy and pressure changes fast. I'm sure it could be set to 4 feet with reasonable acuracy. Radio controls would not be effective under water, but sonic controls would work.
But is there really a market for this? I thought children were required to wear flotation devices in most public swimming places.
This could be applicable for more than just small children.
As long as it doesn't interfere with normal swimming activities, it could be a helpful safety device for anyone who spends time playing or working in or near water.
