If you have ever observed the random vehicle inspection set up outside a suspected terror target it is obvious that the chances of actually stopping terrorist activity is not what we would like. I suggest that we invest in the development of a device that would sit over the roadway under which all vehicles would pass. This device would be sensitive enough to detect explosives or weapons, much like the xray machines used in airport baggage areas. This would eliminate the need for human random searching which is mainly inconclusive. Most of the time the trunk of a vheicle is not even checked unless the occupants of the vehicle are of a supsicious origin. The device suggested would eliminate this need for profiling and would eliminate the delays which cause frustration and skepticism, and obviously, provide us with better security.
