As the color of democracy in the US changes from red, white and blue to green, it might be time to tinker with the design a little bit. Instead of letting money, power, charisma, lineage, etc... effect the outcome, why not give everyone a chance to lead the country by voting for anonymous slates of ideas (solutions to problems put forth by those who want to run for office). A primary would be run to pick the top 4 or 5 sets and then a runoff would be held with the authors of those ideas now being public. This would take away most of the negative influences that now infect our elections. It would also give the winners a huge pile of solutions to pick from during their administration. It might be a good idea to try this out on a small scale first, say at the town or city level.

Whatever the validity of radically changing the democratic process might have, the investment of the powerful forces in the various current communities such as the political parties, the corporations, etc., which make up the nation is so strong that it is unlikely that any change will be accomplished without revolutionary motivation.

It's true that the current political forces would fight against this idea at the state and national level but they might not fight too hard against it at the local level. People at the local level would have a better chance of overcomming their opposition if they tried.

Yeah I had this idea a while ago.....what about just removing the politician out of the arguement altogether and letting civil serveants do our bidding directly. We could have a law that says it is illegal for someone NOT to vote on several or perhaps hundreds of issues over their lifetime. After all a country is more important than some guys murder case yet we INSIST on calling people for Jury duty!

So lets call them up for government decision making duty! They do a week a year or in large nations perhaps a day a year and are chosen based on random selection coupled with their skill base, aptitude and wherabouts!

The current ambience of corruption in politics and elsewhere indicates that the government participates have a huge financial if not ideological stake in the present system. They are in control and you are asking them to deprive themselves of their status and their wealth. What do you think are the possibilities of their voting themselves into oblivion?
