Items for lefties/righties | |||||||||||||||||
Currently, so many common products (e.g. this keyboard, my mouse) are designed for right-handed people, mostly. Research indicates that up to 20% of the world's population is left-handed. Why do designers not consider that signifiant group, when developing products? Why can not all products be conducive to both groups (e.g. all keyboards should have the "Enter" button replace the bottom spacebar; space bar could be smaller, or where the extra Shift button exists on the right)? And what about the mouse's left button/ right button functions? Product designers and techies could make all products totally user-friendly, without too much investment, I believe.

In windows XP (may work in older versions), go to the control panel and open "mouse". Under the "buttons" tab, there's an option to switch the primary and secondary buttons. Instant left-handed mouse!
Left-handed scissors are pretty common. Reach has a left-handed toothbrush.
As a lefty, I wish that folk would give more attention to our needs...but making every item ambidextrous would most likely be a pain in the but...I'd be happy just having the option to get left-handed products, like a left-handed smoke shifter.
Doesn't Ned Flanders in the Simpsons run a store for leftys?
FYI, I just Googled "Items for lefties" and got hits for lots of sites, catalogs, etc.
