Refund Campaign Costs | |||||||||||||||||
Right now, a presidential candidate can get their personally-funded campaign costs refunded if they receive a certain percentage of the vote. I say, reduce the percentage required to zero.

I've read a lot of great ideas of yours Mike -- this ain't one of em. :-)
Are you seriously suggesting to let anyone in the whole country who wants to fancy himself a presidential candidate to start campaigning at taxpayer expense??
Suppose I'm jobless but can borrow a chunk of cash from friends and family. And suppose I figure that travelling around the country for a year is more fun that sitting home looking for a job. Now you're saying all I have to do is declare myself a presidential candidate and I can tour all over and enjoy myself under a basic pretense of campaigning, then vote for myself, and get all my travel costs refunded?
Good point...it would be likely to be abused.
How about making it one percent?
