Disposable Cell/Mobile Phones | |||||||||||||||||
A Toronto, Canada company is ready to test-market a disposable no-frills phone. Users will be charged , say, $40 for x minutes of use. Company claims this will be great for kids and parents for emergencies, and for older folks who have not yet felt they need a cellphone nor want to join a monthly billing arrangement. No frills - no camera; no texting; no downloading, etc.

I don't like dispodsable electronics.
A better concept would be essentially a rental (along the lines of a car rental), where you essentially buy the phone or other device, and when you return it, you get what you paid less service costs, for temporary the needs of a phone.Now if they are "singe use", where they are returned when "used up", and leter re-introduced into the stream, that I can go for, but for phones in particular, Pay-as-you-go cards are better than that even.
