Preset radio station | |||||||||||||||||
Don't you hate that whenever you bought a new car or your car battery died you have to reset each radio station one by one? Why not have the car mfg or the car dealer to preset the radio station before out of the door? Two reasons for this idea: 1. Save hassle for drivers to reset the station (or less to set), 2. Most importantly it also would be a great place for radio station to dominate market shares because most of us don't like to reset the radio station once is set. An analogy is the Radio Channel Guide in <a href=http://www.real.com>Real Player.

So the "most important" problem you're trying to solve is how to find a way for the most powerful radio stations to dominate the airwaves more thoroughly than they already do? Am I alone in my confusion here?
Having re-set my pre-sets would certainly be annoying. But to me, having them automatically set for me, to stations that had the most clout rather than those I actually enjoy listening to (not that there are many of those anymore!), would be far worse.
A: The car mfgr wouldn't know what stations are in your area.
B: The dealer (let alone the manufacturer) wouldn't know your preferences.
Now what they (either the dealer or someone in the production line) could do is store you preferences in an EEPROM memory, and use a secret programming tool to program them, which you'd specify on your option sheet when you order the car.
This also could provide convinience to ones who are not local. Remember you have the controll you can always changing the station.
Anwser to A:
Local radio stations can sign contract with the car dealer to preset their station as the "default" radio station.
Anwser to B:
Dealer doesn't care about your reference. You can always change the default yourself anytime.
