Smart Gym Pass System | |||||||||||||||||
Gym passes are underutilized. why not have smart lockers that open with a swipe of your gym pass? Find a locker with the vacant green light, slide your card, open it, put your stuff in, close it and go. The locker now shows a red “in use” button. The scanner in the locker records your card and it can only be opened by your card again. So essentially it must be swipped twice by the same card to open. I think passes could be used at gyms instead of cash also – I think sales of other items like nutrition supplements, clothes, smoothies etc would increase if people could open gym accounts and be billed later. People change in to their gym clothes and often times do not pack cash. Someone also mentioned the idea of smart cards being used so exercise machines could remember you and where you left off in your workout and automatically adjust. Well why not be able to use your gym pass? I could benefit gyms by having access to tons of data that would allow them to know even more about there customers and managing inventory and knowledge for opening future gym locations.

Whatever would benefit their customers would benefit the gyms. Everything you want, and more, could be provided by RIFD technology coupled with your credit card. When you buy something you wave your device by it and enter a pin number to authorize payment. When you wave the device and the weight machine, it adjusts the weights and positions the parts to fit your program. But don't stop at the gym. Your ID card can let you pay for anything, anywhere. And when you have that heart attack, it will let the EM people get access to your medical records.
An RFID embedded in your membership card. The card records the history of your workout for the day and is downloaded into a database when you leave. The database automatically emails you your exercise profile to date.
This already exist. See here:http://www.gantner.com/
You have a RFID bracelet, which you check-in with. Then you can fill thatRFID with money, to use at vending machines and so on. You can alsouse it at a locker. You simply push the locker closed, then wave with yourRFID bracelet near the lock. The locker will lock and only your card, AND personell cards will be able to open the locker.
Also the lockers can be hooked to a network which allows for remote opening, a personell can in the cash computer click "open locker", then enter the locker number, and then it will be open.
And the system is configurable. If a workout machine has a possibly to remotely alter workout data via external means, the workout machine can be hooked to the network. Along with the workout machine a RFID reader can be placed that is also hooked to network.
This would also allow for per-minute/per-hour debiting of the use of the machines instead of a entry fee.
