"Pro-Freedom" not "Pro-Choice" | |||||||||||||||||
Language is a dynamic creator of our reality. A woman's freedom to make choices about her body is more persuasively presented as "Pro-Freedom" (to choose), rather than "Pro-Choice". "Freedom" (as does "Life" in "Pro-Life") evokes something almost universally seen as positive, where the term "choice" can evoke a sense of the selfish, and does not immediately represent any universally-recognized positive term or concept.

Good point. We should promote this idea to Planned Parenthood et al.
I asked Google about pro-choice and found about 600k returns. I'm sure you can find various places to leave comments and suggestions. Some of these are places that might put your suggestion to use. Some place, for example might want to conduct a contest for user choice of the most effective term.
So just by changing the language you create reality? If that's the case, why not call it Pro-Happy Good Times? Silly, yes, but perhaps you'd get a lot of people jumping on board with that. Seems to me this idea is actually using language to get further away from the reality of situation. This is quite the opposite of what you are suggesting. "Pro-Abortion" would be the true reality statement....but, of course, that reality is not very palatable now is it?
The "FREEDOM" that people tend to bypass regarding "CHOICE" is in the choice before the fact.
That is the choice that should make them accountable for their own actions.
EVERYTHING that is "Life Style" related is based on your OWN PERSONAL CHOICE - When someone or something has to rescue you from your OWN choices - it makes a person less apt to correct the problem that was the cause of the RESCUED ISSUE - people then refuse to be responsible for self originated actions which become a burden on others!
I must ask - Why should someone that I do NOT want to accept responsiblity for have a "RIGHT" to become a burden on me?
WHERE Is MY "Freedom Of Choice"? ..... the choice that effects budget to be responsible for myself . . .
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: If the government would STOP wiping the runny noses of those who refuse to be responsible for themselves....It may allow more LOWER INCOME People the right to keep some of their tax money to live on in a better lifestyle!

Language means more than we think it means and sometimes it's just too clumsy to use or to figure out what it really means as in Choice. I' going to make a personal statement but I think it would be good if others would consider bringing my idea into common usage.
Now -- about that preposition I wish to make a proclamation . . . as if I could. that <B>henceforth and in the future it shall be acceptable and proper grammar to end a sentence any way we wish including with a preposition which is a perfectly good choice to end with... is WITH a preposition? I think so.
In every day usage it takes more words to say correctly what you wish to impart, and is a lumpy sound at best so let us dispense with that superflues rule.
example:
I need a vase to put some flowers in
I need a vase in which to put some flowers.
the first sounds like common usage and the second sounds stilted and has a WHICH in the middle.So henceforth and here forth including the use of Capitals at the beginning, I myself will not rearrange a sentence to create a grammatically correct statement and completely destroy the flow of that which I wish to say. . .
