Keep the back-up QB warm | |||||||||||||||||
Why don't back-up Quarterbacks periodically throw some warm-up tosses during the course of the game, so they are ready to pass on their first play if the starting QB is injured? Currently, when back-up QB's enter the game following an unexpected injury, nearly everyone in the stadium knows the offense will run the ball on the next play, because the back-up is cold and not ready to the throw the ball. Sure, the back-up needs to keep mentally apprised of the success of the game plan and the corresponding adjustments being made, but there is certainly some time during, say TV timeouts, when they could grab a ball and throw a few passes so they are ready if called upon. Next time you see a back-up QB on the sideline with his helmit in-hand, arms folded, chuckling, as he chats with a teammate next to him, think of this idea.
