Although exercise machines are a popular method of developing strength, the repeated movements can be boring after a while. It should be possible to combine exercise machines with video games so that the exerciser sees a video screen where his/her actions are represented on the screen as progressing through an environment . Various dangers could be programmed to appear so that the exerciser must increase or decrease the pace of the exercise to avoid monsters or various environmental traps. Bicycle or rowing machines should be easy to adapt to this but other machines might require some ingenuity to adapt. Various levels of exercise could be programmed to adapt to individual participants.

There really needs to be more stuff like this for young people. Everything that is out there at the present time seems to be geared towards adults.

At the risk of plugging shamelessly, check out www.powergridfitness.com. We've developed a controller that provides excelent gameplay and a solid isometric workout.

Here's the most in-depth review of the product: http://gamesfirst.com/v4/index.php?m=l&i=98

Absolutely, I love this idea! I would recommend games for children that require them to move to keep the game operational as a required part of game play. We are creating a generation of overweight lathargic "mouse clicking, hunchbacks" because of the predominance of the current interface technology. Maybe this could be a suit that is worn that could generate "static" electricity that could in turn be captured by a sensor that is monitored by the computer and keeps the game going or shuts the game process down if not enough movement is detected. It could also be incorporated with replacing current use of the mouse as the only way of directional pointing on a screen surface. Oops, there is a tangent . . . and one of my pet peeves . . . "Mice reduce humans to gagged pointing deaf mutes"!
