For anyone who's ever lost a ball over a fence, you'll know what i'm saying. If you put a sensor on your shoe while practicing by your self and put a sensor on your ball than after the ball is more than 30ft away it will return to you. The sensor would be outlawed during games, but if they had it while practicing by themselves than it would be VERY convinient.

How would the ball return? If you are proposing a mechanical method, would it be damaged by the ball being kicked/hit/etc?
