In Canada, it can get very very cold and extremities like the nose can get ice cold. It would be nice if there was a full mask face hat created, similar to the burglar style ones with the eyes and mouth cut outs, that is attractive.
For example, the full face could be peeled away when encountering other humans. i.e. It can be worn on the way to work or for a walk but peeled back in more public spaces. The hat could be made to represent an animal, funny character, or just be made of new age looking material.

Actually I haven't found what I'm talking about. The ski masks I have seen are quite "scary" looking. I'm thinking: sexy and attractive or cute and funny but not utilitarian.
Living in Helsinki I occasionally encounter extreme cold - although not as often as many assume since the average weather does not differ much from New York. I have employed a ski mask at the times the weather reached around 30 below celsius and felt the uneasiness from the association with terrorists. The problem lies with disguising facial features. This might be avoided with double layer transparent plastic (such as vinyl) sheet face mask to prevent clouding up from breath moisture. This is a bit clumsier than flexible cloth but it solves the problem.

That is exactly what I was thinking! Ski masks have that "burglar", "wrestler", and "terrorist" connotation and therefore the *look* of any of those *occupations*. It's not very sexy or friendly.
I like the idea of transparent plastic and/or a new clear material that's actually warming. This could be a *futuristic* looking design, especially welcome by youth and then adapted to adult styles. Cool. Now if only someone can make it! *grin*
You could add a heating element to a motorcycle helmet. This covers your face, but people can see it, and it looks cool, as long as you are on a cycle. Otherwise it is very dorky. Plenty warm, though.
