No-see Caller ID | |||||||||||||||||
Why not have an optional setting for caller ID to announce the name of the person calling? This way one wouldn't have to drop what he or she is doing to determine who is calling. Alternatively the unit could be programmed to respond to the spoken command "Who is it?"

I'm pretty sure this one exists. I've been seeing ads lately of a women relaxing with her eyes closed and the caption: She's checking her caller id.
Yes, it does exists. My Sony Ericsson mobile phone does this if you add a "voice command", i.e., a pre-recorded tag for that particular contact. So when that particular person calls, the phone will announce the caller's name. However, since it will only announce it once, it is easy to miss calls. Another way is to assign different ringtones to each caller.
I've always wondered why landline phones don't indicate missed calls by blinking/bleeping until you return to the house and lift the receiver.
Being able to dial 1471 is fine but surely there should be a prompt? And the feature would be _so_ easy to build into a new phone - no need for anything to change at the exchange.

You can get phones/addons with that feature. That is if you are out. I doesn't work if you are on phone already.
