Include ability to list a spouse/significant other with a different last name. Take it further, and permit addition of work contact information for the spouse/significant other, rather than having to create a second entry.

Outlook has many significant weaknesses, but his isn't one of them, in my opinion.1. The Outlook spouse's name field could include a different last name.2. Why not enter both people ? Each person has his/her own birthday, and could have their own work address, website, e-mail, etc. Enter the home address and other shared info (children's names) for one, duplicate it (copy to contact folder), and then enter the work info for each. For good measure, you could use the contact field to link the two by clicking on the contact button on the bottom left hand corner of the contact form. You only need to this to one of the spouses, because the link is two-way. Admittedly, you would have to update the common info separately, but this seems like a smallish price to pay. Here in the blue states we have so much divorce anyway that it pays to have separate records for each spouse. I always liked the Commence database, which allowed me to create various links among individuals (A is child of B and C, C is spouse of B) and between individuals and, say, residences (A lives in X, B lives in X, C lives in X). But this level of complexity is not worthwhile for most purposes.
