Chelation is an alternative therapy that can eliminate the need for a heart bypass operation. To learn more, read "Bypassing Bypass" by Elmer Cranton, MD. With chelation, you go to a clinic about 20 times and have an IV, which takes about 3 hours. A lot less trouble than a bypass operation. A bypass is a really serious operation, with lots of unpleasant side effects. And often after a year or so the bypass fails and you have to have another bypass. Before insurance, chelation costs about $3000, compared to about $30,000 for bypass surgery. But chelation is not covered by conventional health insurance, and most of the cost of a bypass is. So after insurance, a bypass is cheaper. My idea is for someone to set up a health insurance company that covers things like chelation, as well as the things that conventional health insurance covers. Initially this would probably be limited to private insurance, because companies would be reluctant to use a new, small company for group insurance. Over time, a few enlightened companies would offer this new insurance company as an option for group medical insurance. This would get the attention of the big health insurance companies, and some of them would start offering this coverage too.
