Modify the tanning bed | |||||||||||||||||
I recently found this site and think it is great. So, I decided to post an idea I had long ago....so be gentle on the newbie. America is a vain place and we will stop at nothing to look and/or feel better about ourselves. I managed a tanning salon about 15 years ago and one complaint I would get was that the beds are hard and uncomfortable. So....why not make a tanning waterbed. It would be very easy to make and the comfort level for indoor tanners would increase 10 fold. The mattress would simply be clear. Water refracts light, so the UV rays needed to tan would still get to your skin. The sides of the "box" or "casing" the mattress sits in would be reflective to keep the light in, possibly even slightly angled upward to ensure they rays get to where they are supposed to go. The bottom would simply be clear. As far as the bulbs go, they would be in a "drawer" that would slide out from the bottom of the bed when the needed to be changed. Anyone who has tanned indoors can atest, the current beds are not made for comfort. I certainly don't think this idea will change the world, by any means, but it can make a few concerned with vanity a little more comfortable before that cruise or beach vacation.

Water absorbs, not refracts UV light.
There's probably a better material than water. Try something that is more gel-like and absorbs less UV.
Anyway, tanning is disgusting (on multiple levels).
