There are many full-size Bluetooth keyboards, portable/foldable Bluetooth keyboards (http://www.thinkoutside.com/stowawaybt_product.html), but no small, 'thumpad' keyboards.

Something small, with chiklet-style keys - much like the thumb-board on a RIM/Blackberry device - only, not attached.

Anyone who gets used to a thumb-board can type fairly quickly - for many, they simply don't need to have their associated device attached and propped up - simply punch away and edit the notes later.

I ran into your article here while doing a search for just such an item... Can't believe no manufacturer has jumped on the idea! It's what MADE the Blackberry (that and push e-mail) and yet, no one seems to want to risk the marketing dollars?
