I was looking at a FedEx shipment tracking page online, when I realized it had a section called "Wrong Address?". When clicked this leads you to a login page where you can correct the address. This got me thinking. Shipment tracking pages for fedex are all url based and require no login, or cookie based data to access. Information is parsed directly through the posted URL, meaning, all you need is a tracking number to change the location of the shipment. So, if someone were to come accross the tracking number of someones package, perhaps in a google spider, they could just change the receiving address to their address and steal whatever the hell they want. I'm not to sure how well this would work, and I don't really have the time or patience to pull a scam like this off anymore. What do you think?

After the guy who was supposed to get the package calls FedEx, what's to stop them from sending the cops over to the address you so graciously provided to pick up the package and whoever is in the house? I guess you could have the package delivered to a third unaware party as a practical joke, but make sure your IP address is well concelaed. My suggestion, keep working on this and give me call when you've perfected it.

And when the customer finds out they didn't receiver their package, the customer will call fed ex, and fed ex will look up this information via tracking number, and find that it was relocated, and sent to a different address, and possibly prosecute you if it happens more than once. Not full proof. I think you should just stick to stealing packages and mail from peoples porches...... (joking... dont do that)

KubeDawg, Jun 20 2005

You could easily hide your IP address by using an anonymizer. Then have the package sent to an abandoned home. However, you would be wise not to do this more than a couple of times, since surveillance would start shortly thereafter. I don't know if hijacking mail from FedEx qualifies as a federal crime or not? It's not US Postage, after all....

Although this might have movie plot capability, the effort to steal an electric toaster or a pair of skis valued against the punishment after you are caught hardly seems worth the effort. Now if you had information that FedEx was transhipping a couple of tons of gold bouillon and you could divert it to an innocent kindergarten where the kids might help you quickly load it on a truck...

Unless FedEx is notified of this potential problem, I have a problem with discussing it on the internet because it can be used to take advantage of people with medical conditions. Please notify FedEx of your findings.
