Virtual Body Scan | |||||||||||||||||
The Levis Store in NY already has a body scanner that can analyze your body and custom tailor a pair of jeans. However, this is costly for the average consumer (jeans can go upwards to hundreds). Of course, that is fashion. My idea is to incorporate this body scanner as a device for shoppers of off-the-rack clothing. One would simply get one's body scanned (yearly, perhaps) and purchase a fob that has those measurements recorded. Then, when you walk into a store, you wave the fob in front of a reader and the screen shows you the stores' inventory and coded sizes that will best fit you. You can still try them on, but then at least you'll have an easier time of it than constantly trying on two or more sizes. This could also base itself over the web to help reduce the amount of returns due to ill fitted clothing. Of course, there's no accounting for those folks who think they're still skinny and wear sizes wayyyyy too small for them.

This is similar in concept to the topic "Custom fit clothes".Its really hard to find clothes in the small sizes. If small sizes are getting sold out more, why not have more of those!
Yes, the custom clothes idea was what inspired me. This one, though, lends itself to affordability. It's not requiring you to order custom clothes - rather, just see what fits you most efficiently.
In addition, you could add a visual - your body with the clothes overlayed on top displayed to you (it could have an intelligent system that warps the clothes to your curves). Then, you could mix and match the clothes for coordination before you even try it out. Of course, the system won't be perfect, but it may give you a good estimate of the fit.
I was supposed to suggest the same idea but I guess you thought of it ahead of time. I would really like to have such virtual body scanner because it is so hard to fit different sizes to find the right size for your body. Not all clothing companies produce the same sizes. A small for one company maybe an extra small to another. People would certainly enjoy shopping if such technology would exist.
