Personally, I hate having electronics lying all around. On top of that, I hate repositioning the remote until the signal catches and making sure I'm pointing to the right device(usually, though, it's weak batteries).

What about a universal infared eye that you place near your TV that transmits/amplifies your signal to another location either wirelessly or wired. Thus, your TV is the only device "left out", while the others can be hidden behind cabinet doors.

Granted, you can get glass doors, but say you'd prefer solid doors for a cleaner look. Or you want to place your equipment not directly below or next to the TV.

Also, I know they have signal boosters. This is more of a signal point-to-point transmitter. One unit on the TV another in the cabinet.

My Sony Direct TV A-55(?) Satellite Box had an antennae you could connect to it. The remote would then work in any room in the house. I live alone and had this one box feeding 3 televisions. I would take the remote from room to room. Worked great. Think it works on radio frequency. Might deviate from your proposal but I felt it could be helpful.

Very similar idea, but I would like something more universal for ALL units. That way, you only have one receiver (infared eye) and then a box that transmits and resends the signal (since most remotes are line-of-sight and don't work when blocked).

Perhaps manufacturers if all manufacturers could adopt something similar to Bluetooth - that can simply work beyond physical barriers.

All you have to do is search for this stuff online and you'd see that it already exists http://www.ofausa.com/remote.php?type=URC%209910

It's already been done. I've seen them in stores.
